Summer in Seoul can be brutal. The heat and humidity can make exploring the city daunting, but lucky for you, there are plenty of ways to survive this season. One of the best ways, in our humble opinions, is to take the temperature as the best excuse to eat multiple ice creams a day. With so many hip ice cream parlors popping up in Seoul lately, you’re going to have to have more than one scoop a day to taste them all!

Emack & Bolios

This place is taking over Seoul and for good reason! Originally launched in the United States, this ice cream parlor is known for its rich ice cream, crazy flavors, and generous helpings. How does Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel sound? Or maybe Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip? Or whatever the flavor ‘Space Cake’ might be? Lucky for you, you can get as many scoops stacked on a cone as you can imagine - so get them all! The main shops are in Itaewon and Garosugil but locations in Dongdaemun and Myeongdong will open soon, just in time for summer!

Hours: 11am - 10pm, everyday

Cold Recipe

This ice cream parlor in Yeonhui-dong, the neighborhood just next to Hongdae, is whipping up flavors you won't want to miss this summer! Grab a cup or a cone of anything from basil, to chocolate chip, passionfruit sorbet, to green tea cheese. They also sell pints that you can take home (if you can wait that long!) Either enjoy your ice cream in the quaint cafe, or walk over to Yeontral Park where you’ll find hundreds of locals picnicking any day of the week in summer.

Address: 2 Yeonhui-ro 11ra-gil

Hours: 12pm - 9:30pm, everyday

Bistopping

Bistopping is the definition of extra. You can customize everything here from the cone to the decorations you can add on top of the ice cream. Every cone ends up looking like a masterpiece that's waiting to be eaten! While it might seem stressful to choose all the odds and ends, the people working there always offer help and you can choose a pre-designed cone as well. Let your imagination shine…before you devour your delicious dessert!

Bruster's

Bruster’s is a classic American-style ice cream parlor. With all the traditional flavors and even the proper glass serving bowls, you’ll be transported right out of Seoul! If you’re with friends, why not try their sundae that includes any number of scoops and flavors you want? How could you pass up a bowl filled with ten scoops of ice cream?! If you don’t like to share, grab your own scoop - it comes with googly eyes that will make you smile almost as much as the super-creamy treat you’re about to enjoy!

Fell & Cole

Fell & Cole is one of the oldest ice cream parlors on this list. Their mix of unique and classic flavors have made them a local favorite in Hongdae. I highly suggest getting a scoop of the Strawberry Balsamic. They even have a few vegan flavors, and best of all, they have dog-friendly ice cream! On warm summer days, it’s almost guaranteed that you'll run into a bunch of cute pups in the store chowing down on some ice cream too. What more could you ask for?!

Le Glacier Des Etoiles (빙하의별)

If you’re looking for a classy ice cream experience, Le Glacier Des Etoiles (Ice Cream Parlor of Stars) is a good place to start. You can try their tart sherbet or a creamy milk soft serve, placed in front of you in a champagne glass. You can pretend you’re an adult and order dinner first from their menu for various French-inspired meals, but no one will judge you if you have dessert first! This gorgeous spot is in Mangwon, a super hipster neighborhood you need to explore!

Hours: 12pm - 10pm Closed Sundays

Seoul Ice Cream

Yes, those little cubes that look like bars of soap are indeed ice cream! Seoul Ice Cream is sold all over the city now, but it started at the coffee shop called, you guessed it, Seoul Coffee. They offer classic Korean flavors transformed into ice cream like Barley, Sweet Pumpkin, Shikye (a sweet rice drink), and more! This is definitely a uniquely Korean stop, and on a hot summer day, you won’t want to miss out!

Milkybee

Your Instagram is not ready for this ice cream! Located in Myeongdong, this ice cream parlor not only has delicious gelato and sorbets, it serves them up in the shape of a blooming rose! Choose from up to three flavors and enjoy this artistic creation! The strawberry, vanilla, green tea combo is my personal favorite. Just don’t take too long to snap photos of your cone, because Seoul’s summer heat will wilt that flower quickly!!

Gelateria Dangdo

This littler gelato shop could not be any cuter! Located in the super-hip Mangwon neighborhood, this gelateria is a must-visit! With flavors like rose chocolate chip, basil tomato, watermelon, rice, yuja, roasted pistachio and more! They are constantly rotating their flavors so every trip will be a surprise! You can choose many different flavors and have them served to you in such a sweet design! The cafe itself is gorgeous too, so don’t pass this place up.

Sobok

Sobok is a favorite for tourists and locals alike! With ice cream made using brown rice, milk, and sugar, this ice cream has a classic Korean taste to it. It is served with an injeolmi ball which is a traditional Korean treat made from rice flour. It also has nuts, pumpkin, and other healthy toppings! With both a classic and green tea flavor, this is a great place to get your ice cream fix with lots of traditional Korean elements!
